Iyengar Yoga Institute of South London Silver Jubilee Yoga Weekend
Iyengar Yoga Institute of South London Silver Jubilee Yoga Weekend
On 14 December this year we will be 25 years old!
Glenys Shepherd will be teaching a yoga weekend in celebration. Glenys was a pupil of both Guruji and Geetaji for some 25 years, firstly at various courses held in Britain by Guruji. These were then followed by her annual attendance for 20 years for many weeks at a time at the ‘Mother’ Institute in Pune India. (The Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute).
There will be four sessions over the weekend and all proceeds will be donated to charity.
Sat 14 Dec, 9am - 1pm: Putting the ‘U’ into Urdhva! (Urdhva: raised, elevated, tending upwards) An intensive yoga intermediate level programme.
Sat 14 Dec, 2:30pm - 5:30pm: Based on Dr. Geeta S Iyengar’s restorative programme from her introductory syllabus. Students will learn how to use the props in a therapeutic way according to their own anatomy. For students of all levels.
Sun 15 Dec, 10am-1pm: Putting the ‘U’ into Utthita! (Utthita: raised up, extended, stretched) While developing stamina, stability and balance, students will discover new ways of using props theraputically. This programme is suitable for beginner/general level students.
Sun 15 Dec, 2:30pm - 5:30pm: An introduction to Patanjali followed by a discourse on the basic philosophy of the ‘eight limbs’ of Astanga Yoga, from the Yoga sutras of Patanjali. This will be followed by an introductory Pranayama practice. For students of all levels.
Glenys and her husband Ed are the founders of the IYISL, which was opened, with Guruji’s blessing, on his 76th birthday, 14 December 1994 and was personally blessed by him when he visited the IYISLsome years later with a special puja. The IYISL was created to provide a place dedicated to the teaching and practice of Iyengar Yoga and this year, the 25th Jubilee anniversary of the IYISL, coincides with the 101st anniversary of Guruji’s birth.
