We often get asked which class to choose by new students so here is some information about the different class levels so you can choose the best class for you.
It is good to learn in a class which doesn’t feel way beyond your ability but at the same time to feel an ongoing element of challenge for ongoing learning and improvement. This is an important part of yoga.
If you are new to Iyengar yoga and have done little yoga previously then it is best to start with our Sunday morning four week introductory beginners course which is designed to give you a good grounding in the full range of poses we practise in yoga. The course is designed to be flexible (!) and you can start whenever you prefer and, if you can't make it 4 weeks in a row, it is fine to catch up on classes when you can. Introductory yoga course
If you have completed our introductory course or have some yoga experience then the next level class is our Sunday morning or Wednesday evening continuing beginners class which helps you continue to build your confidence.
The majority of our classes are mixed beginner and general level classes which are suitable for anyone with about 6 months upwards of yoga experience.
Our intermediate and general level classes are for confident Iyengar students who have been doing classes regularly for at least a year or more who are ready to start learning more advanced poses.
We also run a two restorative class. Restorative yoga is a speciality of Iyengar Yoga and uses a range of yoga props to support the body in poses which can then be held without effort for longer periods of time to experience the physical and mental benefits of yoga poses at a deeper level. These classes are quiet and soothing. It is recommended that restorative yoga is included as part of your yoga practice to create a balanced practice and to help with both day to day stresses as well as times of illness or tiredness.
